Thursday: Write Your Draft

Hazel the Hedgehog holds up her own card. "Here is my model," she says.

"Read it like a cook who has never seen it," says Oliver the Owl.

Ferris points to the swap line. "What do you notice at the bottom of the card?"

Riley grins. "Here is a hint," he says. "Copy the shape, not the foods."

Hazel's model card

Recipe: Hazel's Crunchy Garden Plate
Makes: 2 snack plates.
Ingredients:
1 apple
1 cup of baby carrots
1/2 cup of green grapes
10 whole-grain crackers
Allergy swap: Wheat allergy? Use more carrots or apple slices instead of the crackers.
  1. You: First, wash your hands with all five steps.
  2. You: Next, rinse the apple, carrots and grapes under running water.
  3. Grown-up: Then cut the apple into 8 slices. Also cut the grapes in half.
  4. You: Share the food onto 2 plates, one color at a time.
  5. You: Last, count 5 crackers onto each plate.
  6. Everyone: Taste and enjoy your crunchy garden!
Safety first
A grown-up handles the knife and does all the cutting.
Your card must say "Grown-up:" on every cutting step.
