Wednesday: Model animal

Rocket pulls a fuzzy sock over his hand.

"Meet my model dog," he says. "Woof!"

Raven sets out paper seeds on the table.

"Some are smooth and some are sticky," she says. "What do you notice?"

Nova hums. "Hint: sticky tape can act like hooks."

Your investigation

You will make a model to show how animals carry seeds.

  • a fuzzy sock or a small piece of fleece
  • scrap paper
  • tape
Safety first
A grown-up helps tear the tape.
Keep paper seeds away from mouths.
Wash your hands when you finish.
  1. Crumple five small balls of paper. These are smooth seeds.
  2. Crumple five more balls.
  3. Wrap a loop of tape around each one, sticky side out. These are hook seeds.
  4. Mix all ten seeds on the table.
  5. Put the sock on your hand. Brush it over the seeds.
  6. Count which seeds ride on your model animal.
