Thursday: The Potato Wedges Card

Oliver the Owl pins up a new card. "Oven Potato Wedges," he reads.

Bennie scans the steps. "Two timers! Why two?"

"What do you notice in the middle of the steps?" Oliver asks.

Riley points to one line. "Here is a hint," he says. "Something happens halfway."

Makes: 4 servings.
Ingredients:
4 potatoes
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1/2 teaspoon of salt

Recipe math: time and wedges

The wedges cook for 15 minutes, then 15 more minutes.

15 plus 15 is 30. The wedges cook for 30 minutes in all.

Each potato makes 8 wedges. 4 potatoes make 4 groups of 8.

15 minutes plus 15 minutes is ____ minutes.
4 potatoes, 8 wedges each. How many wedges?
32 wedges shared by 4 people. How many each?

The 2-hour rule

Put leftovers in the fridge within 2 hours.

If it is hotter than 90 degrees F outside, use 1 hour instead.

One hour is 60 minutes, so 2 hours is 120 minutes.

Dinner ends at 6:00. Put the leftovers away by what hour? Type a number.
