Family Cook Day: Bean and Veggie Dip

The crew sets four plates on the picnic table. Ferris brings a bowl and a fork.

"Today we make dip to share," he says. "What do you notice we should do first?"

Lucy raises a leg. "Ask about allergies and read the cracker box!"

Riley smiles. "Here is a hint," he says. "Lots of colors make a happy plate."

  1. A food allergy is when the body reacts to something in a food.
  2. US law names nine major food allergens.
  3. Labels name them in the ingredients list or a Contains line.
  4. Ask before you share. If you are not sure, do not share.
  5. A number line from 0 to 1 can show fourths.
Allergy label words
Read the cracker label for the nine words, like wheat, milk, soy and sesame.
