Family Cook Day: Fluffy Scrambled Eggs

The sun rises over the trail cabin. Ferris sets a carton of eggs on the counter.

"Breakfast time," he says. "What do you notice about how we will work today?"

Lucy the Ladybug holds the bowl steady while Bennie cracks the first egg.

Riley hands over the soap. "Here is a hint," he says. "Raw egg means wash again."

  1. Four steps keep food safe: clean, separate, cook, chill.
  2. Wash your hands after you touch raw eggs.
  3. Never taste raw egg.
  4. Cook eggs until the yolk and white are firm.
  5. Put leftovers in the fridge within 2 hours.
Recipe: Fluffy Scrambled Eggs

  6. Grown-up: Heat the oil in a pan on the stove.
  7. Grown-up: Pour in the eggs. Stir slowly until they are firm, not runny.

  9. Everyone: Taste your fluffy eggs!
  10. You: Wash the bowl and fork with soapy water.
For a grown-up
A grown-up handles the stove and the hot pan the whole time.
Cook the eggs until both the yolk and the white are firm, not runny.
Wipe up any raw egg spills and wash the counter with soapy water.
Put any leftovers in the fridge within 2 hours.
β—‡ FOUR-STEP SPOTTER
While you cook, one person watches for the four steps.
Each time someone does a step, the spotter calls it out.
Example: "Clean!" when someone washes their hands.
Switch spotters halfway. Did your family use all four steps?
