Tuesday: Fractions of a Cup

Bennie needs one half cup of oats. But the 1/2 cup is in the dishwasher!

"Oh no," he says. "Now I cannot make my snack."

Ferris holds up the 1/4 cup. "What do you notice about this little cup?"

Riley scoops some oats with it. "Here is a hint," he says. "Try it more than once."

Cups that fit together

Two 1/4 cups hold the same amount as one 1/2 cup.

So 2/4 cup and 1/2 cup are equal. They are equivalent fractions.

Four 1/4 cups fill one whole cup.

Three 1/3 cups fill one whole cup.
