The first rule of sky watching
// Sky safety, day and night
⏱ about 15 min

Monday: The first rule

Rocket bounces in with a big poster. It says Astronomy Year!

"We will watch the sky all year," Rocket says. "Let us start right now!"

Raven looks out the window. "What do you notice?" she asks.

Nova blinks her blue eyes. "The sky is bright. Would you like a hint? Every sky watcher learns one rule first."

Never look at the Sun

The Sun is a star. It is very, very bright.

Looking at it can hurt your eyes fast.

So sky watchers never look right at the Sun.

Safety first
Never look at the Sun.
Not with sunglasses. Not with binoculars. Not with a telescope.
The Sun can hurt your eyes very fast.

Dark sunglasses are not safe for looking at the Sun.

Binoculars and telescopes make the danger even bigger.

Only special Sun tools are safe. A grown-up handles those.
