At the next town meeting, Rocket and Raven bring a poster. It shows a filter model, a leak chart and a can with a recycling arrow.
Rocket's hands shake a little as he stands up. Raven gives him a thumbs up.
"Science gives our town tools," he says. "We can measure, test and choose."
Nova glows softly beside the poster. The neighbor with the creek jar smiles and starts taking notes.
Afterward, Rocket lets out a big breath. "My knees were wobbly," he laughs. "But we did it."
Communities use many science ideas to protect resources and the environment.
They clean drinking water with settling, filtering and disinfecting.
They fix leaks and use water carefully. They recycle metals and other materials.
They protect soil with plant cover, like the covered hill in Week 9.
| Action | Does it protect a resource? |
|---|---|
| Turning off the faucet while brushing teeth | ? |
| Recycling aluminum cans | ? |
| Leaving a faucet dripping all year | ? |
| Planting cover on bare soil | ? |
Each problem needs the right science tool.
Dirty water needs settling, filtering and disinfecting.
Wasted water needs leak fixing. Washing soil needs plant cover.
You explained real science ideas to your community. Tomorrow is Launch Lab with your family.
