Launch Lab: Family build-off

It is build-off day!

Rocket and Raven each get the same twelve cups.

Rocket builds a rocket. Raven builds a castle.

"Same cups, different builds," Raven says. "What do you notice?"

Nova cheers with a happy beep. "You both win!"

  1. Many objects are built from small pieces.
  2. Take an object apart, and the pieces are still there.
  3. The same pieces can build different objects.
  4. Sand is made of tiny grains, mostly quartz.
◇ FAMILY BUILD-OFF
Each person gets the same number of pieces.
Each person builds something different.
Count your pieces when you finish.
Swap and rebuild each other’s idea.
Safety first
Build on the floor.
Keep small pieces away from little children.
For a grown-up
Ask: what did you notice?
What would you change?
Ask how the builds were alike and different.
