Launch Lab: Moon watch

Raven makes a Moon calendar with seven empty boxes.

Rocket grabs a crayon.

Nova says, "Draw what you see each night."

  1. Never look straight at the Sun.
  2. The Sun rises in the east. It sets in the west.
  3. Earth spins, so the sky seems to move.
  4. Moon shapes repeat about once a month.
  5. Stars are there in the day, hidden by sunlight.
◇ MOON WATCH
Make a chart with seven boxes.
Each clear evening, look for the Moon together.
Draw the Moon’s shape in a box.
No Moon? Draw clouds or a question mark.
Look at your drawings after one week.
Safety first
Look at the Moon with a grown-up.
Never look at the Sun.
For a grown-up
Ask: what did you notice?
Ask: what would you change next time?
The Moon is sometimes up in the morning sky too.
