Nova asks, "Can you find roots, stems and leaves?"
Roots take in water and hold the plant.
Stems hold the plant up and carry water.
Leaves catch sunlight to make food.
Thorns can protect a plant.
β PLANT PART HUNT
Go outside together, or look at a house plant. Find three different plants. Point to the stem on each one. Point to the leaves on each one. Guess where the roots are.
Safety first
Look with your eyes. Touch only plants a grown-up says are safe. Never put plant parts in your mouth. Wash your hands when you get home.
For a grown-up
Ask: what did you notice? Ask: what would you change next time? Compare a thick tree trunk and a thin grass stem.
