Rocket stands in the kitchen with a flashlight.

Raven waits in the hall with a pot and spoon.

Nova cheers, "Send your messages!"

  1. A signal is a light or sound with a message.
  2. A code tells what each signal means.
  3. Sound can travel along a tight string.
  4. Engineers draw a model before they build.
  5. Lighthouses use light and sound to help ships.
โ—‡ THE SIGNAL GAME
Make a code together with three messages.
Stand in two different rooms.
Send messages with flashlight flashes.
Then send messages with spoon taps on a pot.
Did each message arrive?
Safety first
Never shine the flashlight into eyes.
Tap the pot gently to keep ears safe.
For a grown-up
Ask: what did you notice?
Ask: what would you change next time?
