Launch Lab: Mirror relay

Rocket hides a toy behind the couch.

Raven and Nova each hold a mirror.

"Can we pass the light to the toy?" Rocket asks.

  1. Light travels in straight lines.
  2. A mirror reflects, or bounces, light.
  3. Tilting a mirror sends light a new way.
  4. Smooth, shiny things reflect light well.
◇ MIRROR RELAY
Hide a toy behind a chair.
One person shines a flashlight.
Two people each hold a plastic mirror.
Bounce the light from mirror to mirror.
Can you light up the hidden toy?
Safety first
Use plastic mirrors.
Do this indoors, away from sunny windows.
Never bounce light into eyes.
For a grown-up
Ask: what did you notice?
Ask: what would you change next time?
Ask: how many bounces did the light make?
