Crew Quest

Crew Quest: Mission Commander
// Test, polish, snapshot, graduate
⏱ about 30 min

Saturday: Crew Quest: Mission Commander

It is the last Saturday of the course, and Mission Control is decorated with paper stars. Every crew member has printed one program they are proud of and pinned it to the wall.

Rocket pins up Mission Log, of course. Then, after a moment, he pins up his very first program beside it: four print lines.

"Why that one?" Raven asks. Rocket grins. "So I remember where I started," he says.

Raven studies the two pages side by side. "What do you notice?" she asks. "Same person, same language. Just twelve weeks of practice in between."

Nova circles the wall once and settles between them. "Interesting," she says. "Practice is the pattern I found in every great programmer."

  1. Tests catch bugs before your users do. Run them after every change.
  2. Edge cases are real: empty input, damaged files, unexpected answers. Decide what should happen.
  3. Save a numbered snapshot before every big change.
  4. A demo tells a story: the problem, the tool, a real example, and proof it is tested.
  5. Feedback from a real user is the best guide to your next improvement.
β—‡ SHOW AND TELL
Pick your first program from week 1 and your Mission Log. Show both to a grown-up.
Explain three things you can do now that you could not do in week 1.
Together, choose your next project idea and write its features on paper, like the week 11 plan.
