Crew Quest: Teach the Idea

Rocket's little cousin asks, "What is a loop?" Rocket starts talking very fast.

Raven touches his arm. "Slow down. What does your cousin already know?" Rocket nods. He claps three times. "That is a loop!"

His cousin claps three times too. Nova cheers. "Teaching helps you learn," she says. Let's teach one idea to someone younger.

Pick ONE Code Crew idea. Choose from loops, IFs, variables, functions, debug, sort, abstract, boolean, pattern, decompose or sequence.

Teach it to someone YOUNGER than you, in 5 minutes, with no paper.

What I noticed

Crew Brag Box
β˜…β˜…β˜… THREE STARS for finishing all 12 weeks. You are officially a programmer.
You may now design your CREW BADGE on a sticky note.

Code Crew Graduation

  1. 12 weeks. 12 ideas. ZERO computers needed.
  2. You can SEQUENCE, LOOP, BRANCH, NAME, DEBUG, SORT, ABSTRACT,
  3. use BOOLEAN logic, spot PATTERNS, DECOMPOSE big problems, and BUILD.
  4. That's computational thinking. That's coding.
What's Next?
When you're ready for a screen, ask a grown-up to pick a kids' coding app with you.
But you already know HOW programmers think. The screen is just the tool.
Welcome to the Crew.
β—‡ GAME NIGHT PREMIERE
Invite your family to play your finished game.
Read your rules out loud before you start.
Play one full game, from START to END.
Ask each player for one thing they liked and one idea to improve.
CODE CREW REVIEW
  • Read the question.
  • Tap your answer.
Steps in order make a what?
Hiding details to show the big idea is called what?
A named group of steps is a what?
Breaking a big problem into parts is called what?
StatementTrue or false?
A loop repeats steps.?
A variable can change its value.?
A bug means you failed forever.?
AND needs both parts to be TRUE.?
An algorithm is a step by step plan.?
WHY THIS EXERCISEYou now know the big ideas every programmer uses.

Rocket & Raven

See you in the next launch.
