Tuesday: Number Patterns

Rocket hops across stepping stones in the garden. The stones say 2, 4, 6 and 8. The next stone is blank!

"Which number goes here?" Rocket asks. Raven kneels down. "What do you notice about each jump?"

Nova hovers over the stones. "Look at how much each number grows," she hints. Let's find the rule for each number pattern.

Find the rule. Write the next 3 numbers.

2, 4, 6, 8, ___, ___, ___
5, 10, 15, 20, ___, ___, ___
1, 3, 5, 7, 9, ___, ___, ___
100, 90, 80, 70, ___, ___, ___

Sneakier:

1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, ___, ___ (each number = sum of previous two)
1, 2, 4, 8, 16, ___, ___ (each number doubles)
Try Without Paper
Look at a brick wall. The bricks are a PATTERN.
Tell a parent what the rule is.

Growing and Shrinking Patterns

Some number patterns grow by adding the same amount. Some shrink by taking away.

Find the jump between two numbers. Then check it with the next two.
