Crew Quest: Symbol Hunt

"Let's go on a symbol hunt!" Rocket says. They find an arrow, a recycle sign, and a bike lane picture.

Raven sketches each one. "What big idea does the arrow stand for?" she asks. "Go this way," Rocket says.

Nova counts the sketches. "You have three so far. Keep looking for six." Let's help them finish the symbol hunt.

Find 6 symbols in your house, on the way to school, or in a store.

Sketch each one. Write what BIG IDEA it stands for.

Try This Without Paper
1. Look at a sign in your kitchen. What details does it hide?
2. Make up a hand signal for 'I'm hungry'. That's an abstraction.
3. Look at a TV remote and circle the most abstract button (the one with a tiny picture).
◇ SYMBOL CHARADES
One person draws a symbol for a word, using only five lines.
Words to try: home, rain, happy, fast, music.
Everyone else guesses the big idea.
