Crew Quest

// What comes first?

Week 1 Recap

Rocket, Raven, and Nova look back at their week. "We learned so much!" Rocket says.

"A sequence is steps in order," Raven says. "What do you notice when the order changes?"

Nova shows three small quests in the air. "These ones need no paper," she says.

Let's review the big ideas. Then we can try the quests with a grown-up.

  1. A SEQUENCE is steps in order.
  2. A FLOWCHART is a picture of a sequence.
  3. Same steps in a different order = different result.
Try This Without Paper (3 mini-quests)
1. Tell a parent the steps to brush your teeth.
2. Give directions from your couch to the fridge (no naming rooms).
3. Whisper a 5-step bedtime sequence to a stuffed animal.

Words I Learned

  • Sequence: steps in order
  • Step: one small thing you do
  • Flowchart: picture of a sequence
β—‡ PROGRAMMER AND ROBOT
One person is the programmer. The other person plays a robot.
The programmer gives one step at a time to walk to a chair.
The robot does exactly what each step says. No guessing!
Switch jobs. Who needed the most steps?
Safety first
Play in a clear space.
Walk slowly and keep your eyes open.
A grown-up says stop if a path is not safe.
